Implementation Issues on Market-Based QoS Control

چکیده
In this paper, we discuss two major tradeoffs, spatial and temporal tradeoffs, that appear when applying marketbased computing to multimedia network applications. The former appears between computation and communication cost, depending on how agents are distributed over network. The latter appears between reactiveness and correctness of result, depending on how the network environment dynamically changes. By implementing a market-based resource allocation mechanism to a desktop conferencing system, we clarified that (1) as for spatial tradeoff, the centralized computation becomes profitable in proportion to the number of clients, and that (2) as for temporal tradeoff, the merit to respond quickly to the change of the environment by prematurely terminating the computation supersedes the merit to improve the accuracy of the resource allocation by performing the calculation until the market perfectly clears. It has also been proved that the market-based mechanism can achieve efficient allocation in an actual network environment.

Until recently the World Wide Web (WWW) and associated browser technologies have provided no support for the delivery of continuous media in real time. Instead, les have been down-loaded completely and then played back. There are now some systems available that provide support for streaming of audio and/or video between WWW servers and clients. However the Internet comprises a vast range of net...
متن کاملA Mobile Agent Infrastructure for QoS Negotiation of Adaptive Distributed Applications
QoS-aware distributed applications such as certain Multimedia and Ubiquitous Computing applications can benefit greatly from the provision of QoS guarantees from the underlying system and middleware infrastructure. They must avoid execution glitches that affect the user’s perception of the application output. Most research in QoS support for distributed systems focuses on three aspects of QoS m...

متن کاملQoS-Based web service composition based on genetic algorithm
Quality of service (QoS) is an important issue in the design and management of web service composition. QoS in web services consists of various non-functional factors, such as execution cost, execution time, availability, successful execution rate, and security. In recent years, the number of available web services has proliferated, and then offered the same services increasingly. The same web ...
